Questions & Answers about Ilmastonmuutosta ei ole vielä ratkaistu.
How is the negative perfect passive formed in ei ole ratkaistu?
It is formed by using the fixed negative auxiliary ei ole ("has not been") followed by the passive past participle of the verb. For the verb ratkaista (to solve), this participle is ratkaistu.
Why is ilmastonmuutosta in the partitive case?
In Finnish passive sentences, the thing receiving the action (climate change) is grammatically the object. Because this is a negative sentence, the object must be in the partitive case (ilmastonmuutosta instead of the nominative ilmastonmuutos).
What would happen to the word ilmastonmuutosta if this sentence were positive?
If we said "Climate change has been solved", the sentence would no longer be negative. The object of a standard positive passive sentence takes the nominative case. The positive version would be: Ilmastonmuutos on ratkaistu.
What is the base form of ilmastonmuutosta and how is it built?
The base nominative form is ilmastonmuutos. It is a compound word made from ilmasto (climate) in the genitive case (ilmaston) attached to the word muutos (change). Literally: "the climate's change".
