Why isn't the word minun (my) used before pääni?
In standard Finnish, the possessive suffix -ni on the end of pääni (my head) is enough to show ownership. You can add minun for extra emphasis (minun pääni), but it's perfectly normal and correct to leave it out!
Does the suffix -ni change the word pää at all?
No, it attaches directly to the basic word. Because pää ends in a vowel, the suffix -ni just clicks right onto the end without changing or dropping any letters.
Is this the usual way to say 'I have a headache' in Finnish?
Yes! While Finnish does have a specific noun for headache (päänsärky), it is very common and natural to simply describe the body part as sore or painful using kipeä, just like in this sentence.
Why is the adjective kipeä in its basic form?
Because it is describing a single subject (pääni). Even though the subject has a possessive suffix attached to it, it acts as a regular singular noun. Therefore, the adjective describing it stays in the basic, singular form.
