Questions & Answers about غلظت اسید پنج ممیز هشت میلیگرم است.
How do you pronounce the decimal phrase پنج ممیز هشت? Do I need to use an ezafe?
Yes! You read it as panj momayyez-e hasht. Notice that an ezafe (the spoken -e sound used to link words) is added to the word ممیز (momayyez) to connect it to the fractional part.
Why is the unit میلیگرم (milligram) singular if the amount is 5.8?
As a quick refresher from earlier levels: in Farsi, any noun that comes immediately after a number must always remain in its singular form. This rule applies exactly the same way to decimals, so we use میلیگرم instead of a plural.
How do I know to link غلظت (concentration) and اسید (acid)?
They are linked by the standard ezafe to show possession or association ("concentration of the acid"). Because غلظت (ghelzat) ends in a consonant, the connecting -e sound is spoken but not written. You pronounce the block as ghelzat-e asid.
If I were writing this sentence with numerals instead of spelling out the numbers, how is ممیز represented?
In Persian script, the decimal separator is written as a small angled dash (٫), not a dot like in English. So 5.8 would be written as ۵٫۸. Using an English decimal point (a dot) is highly confusing in Farsi, because a dot is used to represent the number zero (۰)!
