Questions & Answers about ما علفزارا رو تو نقشه پیدا میکنیم.
Why does علفزارا (alafzārā) end in an "ā" instead of the standard plural -hā (ها)?
In conversational Farsi, the plural suffix -hā (ها) is almost always shortened to just -ā (ا). So, علفزارها (alafzārhā) becomes the much smoother علفزارا (alafzārā).
How does the suffix زار- (-zār) work in علفزار (alafzār)?
The suffix زار- (-zār) is attached to nouns to indicate "a place full of" that thing. Here, علف (alaf) means "grass", so علفزار is a grassland or meadow. You'll also see it in words like گلزار (golzār - flower garden) or نمکزار (namakzār - salt flat).
Since this is spoken Farsi, why does the object marker appear as رو (ro) instead of just و (o)?
In spoken Farsi, the direct object marker را (rā) shrinks to و (o) after a consonant, but it changes to رو (ro) after a vowel. Because the plural noun علفزارا ends in the vowel ā, we have to use رو (ro) to connect them smoothly.
The English translation says "on the map", but the Farsi uses تو (tu), which means "in". Why?
In Farsi, you look for locations or information inside a map (تو نقشه), just like you would with a book or a picture. If you used روی (ru-ye) meaning "on", it would sound like you are physically resting a physical object on top of a folded piece of paper!
