Questions & Answers about لطفاً بطری‌های خالی را از یخدان بردار و در زباله‌دان بینداز.

How does the suffix -dān work in the words yakhdān and zobāledān?
The suffix -dān is used to create nouns that mean a container or receptacle for something. By adding it to a root noun, yakh (ice) becomes yakhdān (cooler or icebox), and zobāle (trash) becomes zobāledān (dustbin). It is a highly productive suffix you will also see in everyday words like namakdān (salt shaker).
Why doesn't the imperative bardār take the usual be- prefix?
The verb bardāshtan (to pick up or take) starts with the verbal prefix bar-. In Farsi, verbs with directional or spatial prefixes like bar-, dar-, or bāz- usually drop the imperative be- prefix. You simply use the original prefix followed by the present stem, which here is dār.
Why is there an inserted y sound in the imperative biyandāz?
The infinitive is andākhtan (to throw) and its present stem is andāz. When adding the imperative prefix be- to a stem that starts with a vowel (like the a in andāz), Farsi inserts a y to prevent two vowels from clashing. This transforms the expected prefix into biy-, making the word biyandāz.
Why does the object marker appear after the adjective khāli instead of the noun botri-hā?
The marker must always follow the entire noun phrase that serves as the direct object. Since the adjective khāli is linked to the noun by an ezāfe (botri-hā-ye khāli), they form a single unbroken descriptive unit, so naturally anchors to the very end of that chain.
