Questions & Answers about او اینطور رفتار میکند که انگار فضول باشد.
Why is the subjunctive form bâshad used here after engâr instead of the indicative ast?
Using the subjunctive after engâr (as if) shows that the situation is hypothetical, doubtful, or contrary to fact. By using bâshad, the speaker implies that the person probably isn't actually nosy, but is just acting like it. If you used the indicative ast, it would mean 'It seems he actually is nosy'.
Why is there a ke right before engâr?
It connects back to in-tor (this way). The structure in-tor ... ke means 'in such a way ... that'. So literally, the sentence says 'He behaves in this way that as if he were nosy'. In English, we drop the 'that' and just say 'He behaves as if...'.
The lesson also covers gouyâ. Could we use it instead of engâr here?
Yes, you could say ke gouyâ fozul bâshad. Both words introduce an assumption or comparison. The main difference is register: engâr is very common in everyday spoken Farsi, while gouyâ sounds slightly more formal, literary, or journalistic.
Does fozul mean curious in a positive way, or strictly nosy?
It is strictly negative, meaning 'nosy', 'meddlesome', or 'interfering'. If you want to say someone is intellectually curious or inquisitive in a good way, you should use the word konjkâv instead.
