Why is there a ی at the end of زیبایی?
In Farsi, the indefinite article meaning "a" or "an" is the letter ی (i) added to a word. When you have a noun phrase like "a beautiful season", this ی attaches to the very end, right after the adjective زیبا (zibâ). Because زیبا ends in a vowel, a "y" sound is added as a bridge to make it easier to say, resulting in زیبایی (zibâ-yi).
Can I put the "a" on the noun instead, like فصلی زیبا?
Yes, you can! Saying فصلی زیبا (fasl-i zibâ) is also grammatically correct and means "a beautiful season". However, using the Ezafe and attaching the ی to the end of the adjective, as in فصلِ زیبایی (fasl-e zibâ-yi), is a very common and natural pattern in Farsi.
How are the words for "season" and "beautiful" linked in this sentence?
They are connected by the Ezafe, which is a short "e" sound. When an adjective describes a noun in Farsi, the noun comes first and uses this Ezafe to link to the adjective. That is why the word for season, فصل (fasl), is pronounced as فصلِ (fasl-e) here.
Why is the verb است at the very end instead of right after پاییز?
Unlike English which uses a Subject-Verb-Object word order, Farsi usually follows a Subject-Object-Verb structure. Therefore, the "to be" verb است (ast) goes at the very end of the sentence, after the description of the season.
