Questions & Answers about ماساژور از من پرسید که آیا در جکوزی سردم است.
How exactly does سردم است translate to "I am cold"?
This uses an experiencer verb structure. Instead of saying "I am cold," Farsi says "cold to me it is." The adjective سرد (cold) takes the first-person singular enclitic ـَم (-am, meaning "to me"), followed by the fixed third-person singular verb است (is). To change who is cold, you change the enclitic, not the verb: "you are cold" would be سردت است (sard-et ast).
Why is it از من پرسید instead of using a direct object for "me"?
In Farsi, the verb پرسیدن (to ask) requires the preposition از (from) to indicate the person being asked. You literally say the masseur asked from me. You cannot use the direct object marker را with the person being asked.
Why do we use both که and آیا together here to mean "if"?
In reported questions, که acts as a linking word meaning "that," and آیا means "whether." Farsi structures this as "He asked that whether I am cold." In everyday spoken Farsi, the formal question word آیا is often dropped, but the connecting که is kept.
The asking happened in the past (پرسید), so why is است (is) in the present tense?
