Questions & Answers about ماشینهای برقی همیشه با همدیگر برخورد میکنند.
Why do we use با before همدیگر in this sentence?
The compound verb برخورد کردن (to collide or crash) requires the preposition با (with) to introduce what is being hit. Since the cars are colliding with each other, we place the reciprocal pronoun همدیگر right after با.
Does ماشینهای برقی literally mean bumper cars?
Literally, it means electric cars (ماشین means car, and برقی means electric). However, in the context of an amusement park, this exact phrase is commonly used for bumper cars. Outside the park, it just refers to regular electric vehicles!
Could I use یکدیگر instead of همدیگر here?
Absolutely. با یکدیگر and با همدیگر both mean with each other and are completely interchangeable. یکدیگر can sound slightly more formal or literary, while همدیگر is the standard choice for everyday spoken Farsi.
How does the verb برخورد میکنند work here?
It is the present tense of the compound verb برخورد کردن. The noun برخورد means an impact, collision, or encounter, and کردن is the helper verb to do. So it literally translates to doing a collision.
