How does the word ham-saligheh break down?
This word showcases the associative prefix ham-, which means "together" or "same". By adding it to the noun saligheh (taste or preference), you create the compound adjective ham-saligheh, meaning "having the same taste."
The English translation says "we have the same taste," so why does the Farsi sentence use hastim (we are)?
In Farsi, words formed with the ham- prefix often function as adjectives describing a state of being. Literally, the sentence translates to "we are same-tasted." Because it acts as an adjective, you use the "to be" verb hastim (we are) rather than a verb for possessing or having.
Why is the full infinitive verb pushidan (to wear) used in the phrase lebâs pushidan?
In Farsi, full infinitives (verbs ending in -dan or -tan) can also act as nouns, similar to "-ing" words (gerunds) in English. Lebâs pushidan translates to "clothes wearing" or "dressing." Because it functions as a noun phrase here, it naturally follows the preposition dar (in).
Why does the sentence start with man va khâharam (I and my sister) instead of putting "I" last?
In English, we are taught that it is more polite to put "I" at the end of a list (e.g., "My sister and I"). Farsi doesn't have this cultural grammar rule! It is completely natural, polite, and common to put man (I) first when listing subjects.
