Questions & Answers about الزامی است که کپی گذرنامه پیوست بشود.

Why does this sentence use the subjunctive beshavad instead of a regular present tense verb like mishavad?

The phrase elzāmi ast ke (it is mandatory that) expresses an obligation or requirement. This type of impersonal phrase acts as a trigger, forcing the verb in the following clause into the subjunctive mood. That is why we use the subjunctive beshavad rather than the indicative mishavad.

How is the passive voice built in the phrase peyvast beshavad?

The passive voice in Farsi is generally built using a past participle plus a form of the auxiliary verb shodan (to become). Here, peyvast acts as the past participle (meaning "attached"), and beshavad is the present subjunctive form of shodan conjugated for the 3rd person singular subject (the copy).

I know the noun elzām means obligation. What does the -i at the end of elzāmi do?

The suffix -i is added to the noun to turn it into an adjective. Therefore, elzāmi means "obligatory" or "mandatory". The phrase elzāmi ast (it is mandatory) is a very common, formal way to state rules or requirements.

Since kopi ends in a vowel, how do we link it to gozārnāme?

You use the ezafe with a y sound because kopi ends in the vowel i. It is pronounced kopi-ye gozārnāme (copy of the passport). The ezafe is not written out here, but you must pronounce it to connect the two nouns.
