What is the formal version of میام, and how does the colloquial contraction work?
The formal written form is میآیم. In spoken Tehrani Farsi, the present stem of the verb 'to come' (آمدن) shrinks from آی to just آ. The 'y' sound is dropped, turning میآیم into the much smoother میام. You will hear this shortened form almost exclusively in everyday conversation.
Why is 'is beautiful' written as a single word, زیباست?
زیباست is a contraction of زیبا است (ziba ast). When است (is) follows a word ending in a vowel like the 'a' in زیبا, the initial الف (alef) of است is often dropped in both writing and pronunciation. This blends the words together into زیباست (zibast) for a smoother flow.
