Questions & Answers about جمعه مادرم به خانهی ما میآید.
Why isn't there a word for "on" before جمعه (Friday)?
In Farsi, you don't need a preposition like "on" before days of the week. You can just state the day, so جمعه by itself means "on Friday".
How does مادرم mean "my mother"?
The word مادر means "mother". The ending ـم (-am) is a possessive suffix that means "my". Attaching these small endings directly to the end of a noun is the most common way to say "my", "your", "his", etc., in Farsi.
Why is there a ی (ye) added to خانه in خانهی ما?
In Farsi, we link a noun to its owner using a short "e" sound called the Ezafe. Because خانه (house) ends in a silent "h" (the letter ه), we need a bridge to connect it to the Ezafe vowel sound. The ی does this job, making the pronunciation "khane-ye ma" (literally "house of us").
The English translation says "comes", but does میآید mean she is doing it right now or in the future?
It can mean both! The verb میآید is the present tense of the verb "to come" for "he/she/it". Just like in English when we say "she is coming on Friday", Farsi frequently uses the present tense to talk about definite, planned actions in the near future.
