How does the present continuous tense work with the compound verb تحقیق کردن in this sentence?
To show an action is happening right now, Farsi frames the sentence with the auxiliary verb داشتن. We start with داریم (we have) and end with the present form of the main verb, تحقیق میکنیم (we do research). Notice that the non-verbal part (تحقیق) and the verbal part (میکنیم) stay together at the end of the sentence.
This lesson is about the future tense of compound verbs. Since this sentence is in the present continuous, how would we change it to the future tense to mean we will research?
To make a compound verb future tense, we drop the continuous auxiliary داریم and insert the conjugated future helper خواستن between the two parts of the compound verb. Why is there a ی added to the end of درباره?
The word درباره (about) needs an ezāfe to link it to the noun phrase that follows, این واکسن. Because درباره ends in a silent h (which acts as a vowel sound in Farsi), the ezāfe is written with the letter ی and pronounced as -ye. This gives us دربارهی (darbāre-ye).
Why do we need the word دربارهی (about) here when in English we just say researching this vaccine?
In Farsi, you cannot directly attach an object to the verb تحقیق کردن (to research). Instead of researching something directly, in Farsi you always do research about (دربارهی) or on (روی) something.
