Why do we use بخیر for "good" here instead of the usual word خوب?
While خوب means "good" in general, traditional greetings like "Good morning" or "Good night" use خیر (meaning goodness or well-being) attached to the prefix ب (meaning with or to). So بخیر literally translates to "with goodness".
Is the word order exactly the same as in English?
Not quite! In English we say the adjective first (Good morning), but in Farsi greetings, you say the time of day first, then the blessing. So صبح بخیر is literally "Morning with goodness".
Is there an Ezafe (the hidden "e" sound) connecting صبح and بخیر?
No, there is no Ezafe here. You simply say them one after the other. The Ezafe is usually used to link nouns to describing words or owners, but fixed greeting phrases like this skip it.
Does the word مادر share the same root as the English word "mother"?
Yes! Farsi and English belong to the same broad language family. Because of this, some ancient core words sound very similar. مادر is a direct historical cousin of the English word "mother", making it very easy to remember.
