تلفن را به مدیر بدهید.

Questions & Answers about تلفن را به مدیر بدهید.

How is the formal command بدهید built?
It comes from the verb for to give. To make a formal or plural command, we add the command prefix بـ (be-) to the present stem ده (deh), and finish with the plural/formal ending ـید (-id).
Why is را used after تلفن?
را is a marker that points out a specific direct object. Since the sentence means give THE phone (a specific phone) rather than just give A phone, we must add را immediately after تلفن.
Why does the verb بدهید go at the very end of the sentence?
Farsi almost always puts the verb at the very end of the sentence. This rule still applies to commands, so the action to give comes after the object (the phone) and the recipient (to the manager).
Will I hear بدهید pronounced exactly like this in everyday conversation?
In formal speech and reading, yes (bedahid). However, in casual spoken Farsi, the plural/formal ending is often shortened and the middle sound blends, so you will frequently hear people say بدین (bedin) instead.
