Questions & Answers about آنها ما را دعوت کردند اما ما آنها را فراموش کردیم.
Why do we add râ after the pronouns mâ and ânhâ?
In Farsi, râ is the direct object marker. Because us (mâ) and them (ânhâ) are the specific targets receiving the actions of being invited and being forgotten, they need râ directly after them. This turns the subject pronouns into independent object pronouns.
Do we use the exact same words for we/us and they/them?
Yes! Unlike English, which changes the actual word (we/us, they/them), Farsi uses the exact same base pronouns for subjects and objects. mâ is used for both we and us, and ânhâ is used for both they and them. You only know they are the object when you see the râ attached to them.
Why is invited translated as two words (da'vat kardand)?
These are compound verbs, which are very common in Farsi. They are made by pairing a noun or adjective with a helper verb. da'vat means invitation and kardand means they did, so da'vat kardand literally means they did invitation. Similarly, farâmush kardim combines forgetfulness with we did.
Why do mâ râ and ânhâ râ come before the verbs?
Farsi sentences usually follow a Subject-Object-Verb order. In both halves of this sentence, the subject comes first, followed by the direct object with râ, and the verb is placed at the very end. The literal flow is: They us invited, but we them forgot.
