Questions & Answers about آنها امروز کجا میروند؟
Why is کجا (where) near the end of the sentence instead of at the beginning?
In Farsi, question words usually stay in the exact same spot where the answer will go. This is called in-situ word order. Since a destination usually goes right before the verb, the question word کجا goes there too!
Shouldn't there be a word for 'to' before کجا, like 'to where'?
You don't always need one! In Farsi, especially in spoken language, the preposition به (to) is frequently dropped before destinations. کجا میروند perfectly means 'where are they going (to)'.
Does the verb میروند mean 'they go' or 'they are going'?
It can mean both! The Farsi present tense with the می prefix is used for both general habits ('they go') and actions happening right now or in the near future ('they are going'). The word امروز (today) makes it clear we mean 'they are going' here.
How is میروند pronounced in casual spoken Farsi?
In everyday speech, the written ending for 'they' shrinks down, and the 'v' sound often drops out. So, instead of the formal میروند (mi-ravand), you will almost always hear میرن (mi-ran).
