Questions & Answers about من در این شهر آدرس ندارم.
Why does the verb nadâram start with na- but doesn't have the mi- prefix like other present tense verbs?
The verb dâshtan (to have) is a special case in Farsi. In the present tense, it does not take the usual mi- prefix. To make it negative, you simply add the negative prefix na- directly to the present stem -dâr-, followed by the personal ending -am for I. So, na- + -dâr- + -am becomes nadâram (I do not have).
Is âdres an English loanword?
It is actually a French loanword (adresse), but it sounds very similar to the English word and means the exact same thing! Farsi borrowed many modern words from French, making words like âdres very easy for English speakers to learn.
Why does dar in shahr (in this city) come before the word for address?
In Farsi, phrases that show location or time usually go after the subject but before the direct object. So the sentence follows this standard structure: Subject (man) + Location (dar in shahr) + Object (âdres) + Verb (nadâram).
Could I drop the word man (I) at the beginning of the sentence?
Yes, you can! Because the verb ending -am in nadâram already tells us exactly who is doing the action (I), the subject pronoun man is optional. Saying is perfectly natural and very common in everyday Farsi.
