Why does the word in come before sandali? I thought Farsi puts describing words after nouns.
Pointing words like in (this) and ân (that) are exceptions to the usual rule. Just like in English, they always go right before the noun they are pointing at.
Do I need to add an 'e' sound (the ezâfe) to connect in and sandali?
No, you do not. Pointing words do not use the ezâfe to attach to a noun. You simply say in sandali side-by-side, never in-e sandali.
Why isn't there an 'e' sound linking sandali and aali?
We only use the ezâfe to stick an adjective directly to a noun to make a phrase, like saying 'this excellent chair' (in sandali-ye aali). But here, the sentence is 'This chair is excellent'. Because we are using the verb ast (is) to describe the chair, no ezâfe is used between the noun and the adjective.
Why is the verb ast at the very end of the sentence?
In Farsi, the main verb almost always goes at the very end of the sentence. So instead of the English order 'This chair is excellent', the Farsi order is literally 'This chair excellent is'.
