Thought and speech clauses (ke)

When you want to share a belief, report what someone said, or state a fact, you connect a main verb to a descriptive clause. In Farsi, we do this using the complementizer که (that).

Connecting Thoughts and Speech

Use که immediately after a main verb of thinking, speaking, or knowing to introduce the information that follows.

Other Common Verbs

You will use که with a wide variety of mental and communicative verbs, like believing, knowing, or hearing. Whether you are discussing proven facts or sharing cultural superstitions (خرافات), the structure remains the same.

In English, we often drop the word "that" in everyday speech (e.g., "I know it is magic"). In Farsi, keeping که clearly links the two parts of your sentence together.
