The present progressive tense (dâram mi-)

To describe actions happening right at this exact moment, Farsi uses the present progressive tense.

Form this tense using the present tense of داشتن (to have) as a helper verb, paired with the main verb in the present indicative (starting with می‌). Both verbs must be conjugated to match the subject.

When used as a helper verb, داشتن drops its meaning of "to have" and simply emphasizes that the action is happening "right now."

SubjectHelper VerbMain VerbMeaning
مندارممی‌رومI am going
توداریمی‌رویYou are going
او / آنداردمی‌رودHe/She/It is going
ماداریممی‌رویمWe are going
شماداریدمی‌رویدYou (pl.) are going
آنهادارندمی‌روندThey are going

Notice how both verbs take the matching personal ending. Other words in the sentence (like locations or objects) usually sit between the helper verb and the main verb.
