State and fullness suffix (-gin, -âgin)

In Farsi, you can create adjectives denoting deep emotional states or the quality of being "full of" something by attaching the suffixes گین or آگین to a noun.

These suffixes translate roughly to "-ful," "-ous," or "filled with."

Deep Emotions with گین

When attached to nouns describing feelings, گین creates adjectives that describe a deep, often overwhelming state of mind.

  • شرم (shame) + گین = شرمگین (ashamed)
  • اندوه (sorrow) + گین = اندوهگین (sorrowful)
  • خشم (anger) + گین = خشمگین (angry)

Fullness and Atmosphere with آگین

The suffix آگین functions similarly but is often used to describe situations, environments, or actions infused with a specific quality.

  • زهر (poison) + آگین = زهرآگین (toxic)
  • درد (pain) + آگین = دردآگین (painful)
  • مهر (affection) + آگین = مهرآگین (affectionate)
