Responsibility (bar ohde-ye)

Assigning Responsibilities

To formally assign duties, Farsi uses the phrases به عهده or بر عهده ("the responsibility of" or "in charge of"). Add the ezafe connector to link them to the responsible person (به عهده‌ی or بر عهده‌ی). They are interchangeable.

The basic structure is: [Task] + به / بر عهده‌ی + [Person/Pronoun] + [Copula (است)]

Delegating Actions

The assigned task can be a simple noun or a longer verbal phrase.

Negation and Contractions

Negate an assignment by changing the final copula to نیست (is not). When affirmative, the copula است frequently contracts with the noun or pronoun before it (for example, شما است becomes شماست).

These structures also work perfectly within complex or conditional sentences.
