Present progressive (dâram miravam)

In Farsi, the standard present continuous tense (like می‌روم, meaning "I go" or "I am going") covers both habitual and ongoing actions. To emphasize that an action is happening right at this exact moment, use the present forms of the auxiliary verb داشتن (to have) to create the present progressive.

The structure requires two conjugated verbs: [Conjugated داشتن] + [Rest of sentence] + [Conjugated present continuous verb]

SubjectAuxiliary
مندارم
توداری
او / آندارد
ماداریم
شمادارید
آنها / ایشاندارند

The auxiliary verb typically follows the subject, framing the sentence with the main verb at the very end.

Compound Verbs

Both the auxiliary and the main verb must match the subject in person and number. For compound verbs, the main action verb at the end takes the می‌ prefix and the conjugation ending, exactly as it does in the regular present tense.

Questions

To ask a question in the present progressive, keep the exact same structure and add a question word like آیا (for yes/no questions) or چرا (why) to the beginning.
