Noun Clauses with اینکه

When you want to talk about a whole idea or event as a single thing, English uses phrases like "the fact that." Farsi uses the combination اینکه (literally "this that") to turn an entire clause into a noun.

Because اینکه creates a nominal clause, this new phrase can act just like a regular noun: it can be the subject, the direct object, or the object of a preposition in your main sentence.

As a Subject

Place اینکه at the beginning of a clause to make that entire clause the subject of the sentence. This is frequently used to express an opinion, a reaction, or a fact about a situation.

As a Direct Object

When your اینکه clause receives the action of a verb, it becomes the direct object. Because nominal clauses are inherently specific and definite, they take the direct object marker را right after the clause ends.

As the Object of a Preposition

Many Farsi verbs require specific prepositions to connect to their objects. For example, the compound verb پی بردن (to realize) is always followed by the preposition به.

When the object you are realizing or discussing is an entire clause, the preposition is simply placed right before اینکه (e.g., به اینکه or در مورد اینکه).
