Negative Third Conditional
To talk about conditions that didn't happen in the past, use the negative form of the Past Perfect. Add the negative prefix نـ to the past participle. For example, کرده بود (had done) becomes نکرده بود (had not done).
| If the programmer had not tested the code, the software would have crashed. | اگر برنامهنویس کد را تست نکرده بود، نرمافزار هنگ میکرد.agar barnâme-nevis kod râ test nakarde bud, narm-afzâr hang mikard. |
Compound Verbs
Many tech terms use compound verbs. The negative prefix نـ attaches only to the verbal part (like کردن), leaving the noun or adjective unchanged.
| If they had not recovered the data, the server would have been ruined. | اگر آنها دادهها را بازیابی نکرده بودند، سرور خراب میشد.agar ânhâ dâdehâ râ bâzyâbi nakarde budand, server kharâb mishod. |
| If you had not entered the code incorrectly, the software would not have crashed. | اگر کد را اشتباه وارد نکرده بودی، نرمافزار هنگ نمیکرد.agar kod râ eshtebâh vâred nakarde budi, narm-afzâr hang nemikard. |
Negative Conditions with Negative Results
You can easily combine a negative condition with a negative result. In these sentences, both the condition clause and the result clause take the negative prefix.
| If the server had not crashed, the programmers would not have gone home. | اگر سرور هنگ نکرده بود، برنامهنویسها به خانه نمیرفتند.agar server hang nakarde bud, barnâme-nevis-hâ be khâne nemiraftand. |
| If I had not read about the hackers, I would not have downloaded the antivirus. | اگر دربارهی هکرها نخوانده بودم، آنتیویروس را دانلود نمیکردم.agar darbâre-ye hakerhâ nakhânde budam, ânti-virus râ dânlod nemikardam. |
