Multipliers (barâbar)

Preparing the Kitchen

Let's look at a few common words for managing food quantities and ingredients when catering an event.

Multipliers with برابر

To express that an amount is scaled up by a factor, Farsi uses the word برابر after a number, similar to the English suffix "-fold" or the phrase "times as much" (e.g., دو برابر means "double" or "twice as much").

Combine this with the verb کردن (to do / to make) to form compound verbs like دو برابر کردن (to double) or ده برابر کردن (to increase tenfold).

You can also use these multipliers with the verb "to be" to describe static quantities.

Taste and Consistency

Liquids and sauces are often described as either رقیق (thin) or غلیظ (thick or strong).

To keep these textures consistent, use the compound verb هم زدن (to stir).
