Structuring Your Arguments

When making a structured argument or listing reasons—such as outlining the pros and cons of renting a specific apartment—Farsi uses a sequence of borrowed Arabic adverbs. These words end with a special double-stroke character (اً) which acts as an adverb marker.

To introduce your first point, use اولاً (firstly). Just like in English, it is usually followed by a comma.

Secondly

To build on your argument and introduce your next point, use ثانیاً (secondly).

Thirdly

To present your third and final point, use ثالثاً (thirdly). Structuring your thoughts with this sequence makes your arguments sound clear, formal, and highly convincing.
