Adverbs of certainty and manner (-an)

When leaving reviews or expressing strong opinions, adverbs help show exactly how certain you are or to what degree something is true.

In Persian, many of these adverbs are formed using a special suffix borrowed from Arabic: ـاً (pronounced "an").

The Arabic Adverb Suffix

You will see this suffix attached to the end of loanwords to turn them into adverbs. It is written as an alef topped with a double accent mark called a tanvin (ماً, لاً, قاً, etc.).

Using اصلاً (at all)

The word اصلاً is extremely common in negative reviews. Just like in English, it naturally pairs with a negative verb to mean "not at all" or "absolutely not."

Nuance and Tone

Beyond just strong certainty, you can use these adverbs to soften your statements, express hesitation, or qualify your ratings.
