To explain exactly how an action is performed, Farsi uses adverbial phrases of manner. Combine the preposition به with an abstract noun ending in ی to create the equivalent of an English "-ly" adverb or "with [noun]" phrase.
For example, زیبا (beautiful) becomes the abstract noun زیبایی (beauty). By adding به, we get به زیبایی (beautifully).
| The young acrobat started his artistic performance beautifully. | آکروبات جوان هنرنمایی خود را به زیبایی شروع کرد.âkrobât-e javân honarnamâyi-ye khod râ be zibâyi shoru' kard. |
Similarly, راحت (comfortable/easy) becomes راحتی (ease), giving us به راحتی (with ease / easily).
| He jumped from the bar and landed on the mat with ease. | او از میله پرید و به راحتی روی تشک فرود آمد.u az mile parid va be râhati ruye toshak forud âmad. |
A Productive Pattern
You can take almost any adjective, turn it into an abstract noun, and pair it with به to describe how something is done. Notice how the adjectives ساده (simple), سبک (light), and چابک (agile) easily become adverbs of manner using this formula:
| It seems the agile ones do the somersaults simply. | انگار چابکها پشتکها را به سادگی میزنند.engâr châbok-hâ poshtak-hâ râ be sâdegi mizanand. |
| He performed the rhythmic movements lightly. | او حرکات موزون را به سبکی انجام داد.u harekât-e mowzun râ be sabuki anjâm dâd |
| He finished his rhythmic leaps nimbly and bowed. | او پرشهای موزون خود را به چابکی تمام کرد و تعظیم کرد.u paresh-hâ-ye mowzun khod râ be châboki-ye tamâm kard va ta'zim kard |
