Expressing "Still" and "Not Yet"
To express that an action is continuing or hasn't happened yet, use the adverb هنوز. Its meaning changes depending on whether the verb is affirmative or negative.
Affirmative Verbs: "Still"
When paired with an affirmative verb, هنوز means still.
| I am still awake. | من هنوز بیدار هستم.man hanuz bidâr hastam. |
| I still have insomnia. | من هنوز بیخوابی دارم.man hanuz bikhâbi dâram. |
| Does the brain still work at night? | آیا مغز در شب هنوز کار میکند؟âyâ maghz dar shab hanuz kâr mikonad? |
Negative Verbs: "Not Yet"
When paired with a negative verb, هنوز means not yet.
| My sleep cycle is not natural yet. | چرخهی خواب من هنوز طبیعی نیست.charkhe-ye khâb-e man hanuz tabi'i nist. |

Position in the Sentence
هنوز is flexible in its placement. It usually appears early in the sentence (right after the subject) or immediately before the verb or adjective it modifies.
