Questions & Answers about De bruid en de bruidegom vieren de bruiloft.
What is the difference between de bruiloft and het huwelijk?
Bruiloft specifically refers to the wedding party or the celebration itself. Huwelijk refers to the marriage (the legal or formal state of being married) or the official ceremony. Since they are actively celebrating with a party, bruiloft is the natural choice here.
Why is the article de repeated before bruidegom? Could I just say de bruid en bruidegom?
Yes, you can drop the second de. While repeating it slightly emphasizes them as two distinct individuals, leaving it out (de bruid en bruidegom) is very common because they form a natural, expected pair, much like saying "the bride and groom" in English.
If we changed this to an inverted sentence with a reflexive verb (like zich vermaken, to enjoy oneself), where would the reflexive pronoun go?
If we start with a time word like Vandaag (Today), the verb comes before the subject. Following the middle-field constraints you are learning, the reflexive pronoun zich must come after the full noun subject: Vandaag vermaken de bruid en de bruidegom zich op het feest. It can never interrupt the verb-subject cluster (so vermaken zich de bruid... is always incorrect).
