Questions & Answers about Welke lijn gaat naar het station?
Why do we use welke here instead of welk?
The word lijn is a de-word (de lijn). When asking 'which' about a de-word, you must use welke. If you were asking about a het-word, like the station itself, you would drop the 'e' and use welk (for example: welk station?).
Is lijn used specifically for public transport, or does it mean a drawn line too?
It means both! Just like in English, lijn can refer to a physical drawn line, a line of text on a page, or a route in a public transport network like a bus, tram, or metro line.
Could I use the verb rijden instead of gaat here?
Yes, absolutely. You will very often hear Welke lijn rijdt naar het station? Both gaan (to go) and rijden (to drive/run) are perfectly natural choices when talking about the movement of public transport in Dutch.
Why do we use the preposition naar instead of tot?
In Dutch, naar is the standard preposition used to express movement toward a physical destination, like a building, a city, or het station. You would only use tot if you wanted to emphasize going 'as far as' a certain stop and no further.
