Does using en to connect two words change the word order here?
en means "and". In this sentence, it simply links the two describing words (zonnig and warm). Because it is a coordinating conjunction, it acts like a bridge and doesn't change the order of the words around it at all.
Why don't the adjectives zonnig and warm have an -e at the end?
Adjectives in Dutch usually only get an added -e when they come directly before a noun (like in het zonnige weer). Because zonnig and warm come after the noun and the verb (is), they stay in their basic dictionary form.
Why is zonnig spelled with a double 'n'?
The Dutch word for sun is zon, which has a short 'o' sound. When we add the -ig ending to make it the adjective zonnig, we have to double the consonant 'n' to keep that 'o' short. If we wrote zonig, it would be pronounced with a long 'o' sound.
Why do we use het instead of de for weather?
In Dutch, all nouns are either common (taking de) or neuter (taking het). Weer happens to be a neuter noun, so it always takes het. Because there are very few rules for guessing this, it is always best to memorize the article together with the noun!
