Learn Dutch: Het is warm, hè? - It is warm, right?

hè is a small word added to the end of a sentence to ask if the other person agrees with you. It works exactly like saying "right?", "isn't it?", or "huh?" in English.

Why is there an accent mark on the word hè?

The accent mark tells you to pronounce the 'e' as a short, clear sound, like the 'e' in the English word "pet". If it didn't have the accent, a single 'e' at the end of a Dutch word would normally sound like a soft "uh".

Do I always use het to talk about the weather?

Yes! Just like in English where we say "it is warm" or "it is raining", Dutch uses het (it) as a standard placeholder subject when talking about the weather, temperature, and time.
