Questions & Answers about Welk hotel is het beroemdst?
Why is it het beroemdst and not just beroemdst?
When a superlative comes at the end of a sentence to describe the subject, it always gets the word het in front of it. You can think of it like saying the most famous in English. It always takes het here, even if the subject is a de-word.
How do you form the superlative beroemdst?
You take the basic adjective beroemd (famous) and simply add -st to the end. Even though beroemd already ends in a d, you just attach the ending directly to make beroemdst.
Why do we use welk here instead of welke?
The word for which changes based on the noun it belongs to. Because hotel is a het-word (het hotel), we use the shorter form welk. If we were asking about a de-word, we would use welke.
In English we say most famous instead of famousest. Why doesn't Dutch use a separate word for most here?
English uses most for longer adjectives, but Dutch almost always just adds -st to the end of the adjective to make it a superlative. It does not matter how long the Dutch word is!
