Why is the word order alleen thuis instead of thuis alleen?
In English, we say "home alone". But Dutch sentences generally prefer to put place words (like thuis) at the very end of the sentence. So it translates word-for-word as "I am alone at-home."
What is the difference between thuis and huis?
Huis is the physical building (a house). Thuis means "at home". When you want to say you are at your place, you almost always use the single word thuis rather than literally saying you are in a huis.
Can alleen mean "only" as well as "alone"?
Yes, it means both! In this sentence, it clearly means "alone". But you will also see it used to mean "only", for example in Ik spreek alleen Engels (I only speak English). Context will usually tell you which meaning is intended.
