Exceptions: behalve dat
To add an exception to a statement, use behalve dat (except that). Because it acts as a subordinating conjunction, it sends the conjugated verb to the end of its clause.

To say "besides the fact that," use buiten dat. While behalve dat limits a statement, buiten dat adds to it.
When placed after the main clause, the main clause keeps its normal word order, while the verb in the buiten dat or behalve dat clause goes to the end.
