Today we are getting our hands dirty in the pottery studio.

Describing Manner with zoals
To describe how an action is performed by comparing it to another, use the conjunction zoals ("as", "like", or "the way that").
Because zoals is a subordinating conjunction, it pushes the conjugated verb to the end of its clause.
| You must shape the clay as the potter does it. | Je moet de klei vormen zoals de pottenbakker dat doet. |
| Make the clay supple as I am doing now. | Maak de klei soepel zoals ik het nu doe. |
| Shape the clay as I explain it. | Vorm de klei zoals ik het uitleg. |
| I knead the clay firmly, as the potter explains. | Ik kneed de klei stevig, zoals de pottenbakker uitlegt. |
