Questions & Answers about Uvijek imaš pravo.
Why does the sentence use imaš (you have) instead of a word for 'you are'?
In Croatian, being right is expressed with the verb imati (to have). Literally, this sentence translates to 'You always have right.' This is a very common phrase you will use often!
Where is the word for 'you' in this sentence?
The word ti (you) is left out. In Croatian, the ending of the verb imaš already tells us exactly who is doing the action (you, informal). Pronouns are usually dropped unless you want to put special emphasis on them.
Since this lesson covers the negative verb nemati, how would I say 'You are not right'?
You would use the negative form of the verb, which is nemaš. To say 'You are not right', you simply say Nemaš pravo (Literally: You do not have right).
Can I change the word order and say Imaš uvijek pravo?
Yes, Croatian word order is very flexible. Both are grammatically correct, but putting the time word uvijek (always) at the beginning is the most natural and common way to phrase this.
