Questions & Answers about Studenti vole učiti hrvatski.
Since the verb is voljeti, why is the 'they' form vole instead of something with 'je' in it?
Voljeti (to like/love) is a regular -jeti verb. In the present tense, these verbs typically drop the -je- before adding their endings. For the "they" form, the ending is -e, so voljeti becomes vole.
Why is the second verb, učiti, in its basic dictionary form?
Just like in English ("they like to study"), when two verbs go together, the first one tells us who is doing the action (vole for "they like") and the second stays in its infinitive or dictionary form (učiti).
Why does the word for student end in -i here (studenti)?
Because it is plural! The singular word is student (a masculine noun ending in a consonant). To make most masculine nouns plural when they are the subject of the sentence, you simply add an -i to the end.
Why is the word hrvatski used on its own without the word for 'language'?
In Croatian, you usually do not need to add the word for language (jezik). The masculine adjective hrvatski (which means "Croatian") is used by itself to mean "the Croatian language".
