Questions & Answers about Naša posada će pripremiti jahtu pod uvjetom da potvrdite rezervaciju.
Why is the present tense potvrdite used here when the confirmation is clearly a future event?
After pod uvjetom da, Croatian uses the regular indicative mood, which is just the present tense here. Even though the action belongs to the future, you use the present tense of a perfective verb to indicate that the condition must be completely fulfilled before the main event (preparing the yacht) can happen.
Could I use the regular 'if' (ako) instead of pod uvjetom da in this sentence?
Yes, you could say ako potvrdite (if you confirm), and the sentence would still be grammatically correct. However, pod uvjetom da is more formal and emphasizes that the confirmation is a strict, non-negotiable prerequisite, just like 'provided that' or 'on the condition that' in English.
Why must we use the perfective verb potvrditi instead of its imperfective pair potvrđivati after this condition?
You need the perfective aspect here because confirming the reservation is a single, completed action that triggers the crew's preparation. If you used the imperfective potvrđivati, it would mean 'on the condition that you are in the process of confirming' or 'that you repeatedly confirm,' which does not make sense for a reservation.
Posada (crew) refers to multiple people. Why does it take the singular form Naša and the singular verb će?
Although a crew consists of multiple people, the word posada is a grammatically feminine singular noun in Croatian. Because of this, any adjectives describing it (like Naša) and any verbs agreeing with it must also be in the singular.
