Questions & Answers about Vlak ne vozi nedjeljom. Zbog toga idemo autom.
Why does the sentence use vozi for a train? Doesn't that mean "drives"?
In Croatian, you use the verb voziti for public transport on a schedule, like trains, buses, or trams. While in English a train "runs", in Croatian it "drives".
Why is nedjeljom in the instrumental case here?
Using the instrumental case for days of the week, like nedjeljom, means the action happens regularly on that day. It translates to "on Sundays" or "every Sunday". If it were just one specific Sunday, you would use u nedjelju.
Why is it Zbog toga instead of just Zbog to?
The preposition zbog (because of) always requires the genitive case. Therefore, the pronoun to (that) changes to its genitive form, toga.
Why is there no preposition before autom? Shouldn't it be s autom?
When you are talking about the means of transportation you use to get somewhere, you use the instrumental case without a preposition. Adding s or sa (with) would sound like you are physically traveling alongside the car as a companion, rather than using it as a vehicle!
