Questions & Answers about Čujem glazbu iz dvorišta.
What is the difference between čujem and slušam?
Čujem comes from the verb čuti and means "I hear" (perceiving a sound without necessarily trying to). Slušam comes from slušati and means "I listen" (an active, intentional action). Because you just happen to perceive the sound of the music from the courtyard, čujem is the correct choice here.
Why is the word for music glazbu instead of glazba?
The noun glazba is the direct object of the verb čujem, which means it must take the accusative case. For feminine nouns ending in -a, the accusative ending changes to -u, making it glazbu.
Why do we use the preposition iz for "from" instead of od or s?
The preposition iz specifically means "out of" and is used when something comes from inside an enclosed space. In Croatian, a courtyard (dvorište) is treated as a container or enclosed area. If the music were coming from a flat surface or an open area, you would use s or sa instead.
Why does dvorišta end in -a in this sentence?
