The -je- classes
čuti (to hear) has been with you since the beginning: Čujem glazbu iz dvorišta. Its present inserts -je-: čujem, čuješ, čuje, čujemo, čujete, čuju.
Verbs in -avati do the same and drop the -av-: davati → dajem, poznavati → poznajem, prodavati → prodajem. Dajem psu vodu svako jutro. Note the difference from dati (perfective): dam, daš — the imperfective dajem is the everyday habit form.
The -ći velar class
peći (to bake) hides a velar stem: pečem, pečeš, peče, pečemo, pečete — but 3rd plural peku. Pečem kolač za goste. The same k/č alternation runs through the class (reći → rečem/reknu, vući → vučem... vuku), and you will meet it again in the vocative (čovječe!) and in sibilarization — it is the same Slavic consonant law seen from three sides.
