Questions & Answers about Ovdje nema sposobnog vođe.
Why does the adjective sposobnog have a masculine ending, but the noun vođe looks like a feminine word?
The noun vođa (leader) is a masculine word that ends in '-a'. Because of that '-a', it changes its endings like a feminine noun (which is why the genitive becomes vođe). However, any adjective describing it must agree with its actual masculine gender, so we use the masculine genitive ending '-og' for sposobnog.
Why are the words sposobnog and vođe in the genitive case?
The word nema is used here to mean 'there is no' or 'there isn't any.' In Croatian, when you use nema to show that something is missing or doesn't exist, the thing that is missing must be in the genitive case.
Is nema conjugated to match vođa?
No, nema is used impersonally here, meaning it has no subject. It is frozen in the third-person singular form. You can think of it as literally meaning 'it does not have,' which is why it forces the following noun into the genitive case instead of acting as the subject.
Since vođa takes feminine endings, does that mean its plural form is also vođe?
Yes! Because it follows the feminine declension pattern, the nominative plural is vođe (leaders) - which looks exactly like the genitive singular form used in this sentence. You will always know which one is meant based on the context and the adjectives attached to it.
