Questions & Answers about Danas učimo o kulturi i umjetnosti.
Why do kultura and umjetnost end in -i in this sentence?
They are in the locative case because they follow the preposition o (about). The feminine noun kultura changes its -a to -i. The noun umjetnost also adds an -i ending for the locative case.
I thought nouns ending in a consonant were usually masculine. Is umjetnost masculine?
No, umjetnost is feminine. Most nouns ending in a consonant are masculine, but there is a special group of feminine nouns that end in a consonant, many of which end in -ost. When they are in the locative case, you add -i to the end, giving us umjetnosti.
Could we use studiramo instead of učimo here?
Not usually. Učiti is the standard verb for learning or studying any topic or skill. You only use studirati when talking about formally pursuing a degree at a university, like majoring in a specific subject.
Do I need to repeat o and say o kulturi i o umjetnosti?
You don't need to repeat it. The single preposition o applies to both nouns because they are linked by i (and). Just make sure both nouns are in the locative case!
