Šetat ćete zajedno u parku.

Questions & Answers about Šetat ćete zajedno u parku.

Why is it Šetat ćete instead of Šetati ćete?
In Croatian, when an infinitive verb ending in -ti (like šetati) comes directly before the future helper verb (like ćete), it drops its final -i. This makes it flow better and is easier to say quickly.
Can I start the sentence with Ćete instead?
No. The word ćete is a weak word called an enclitic, and these are never allowed to be the very first word in a sentence. Because of this rule, the main action verb (šetat) jumps to the front of the sentence to support it.
How do we know this means you will walk if the word vi isn't in the sentence?
The helper verb ćete is exclusively the you (plural or formal) form of the future tense. Since it already tells us exactly who is doing the action, the pronoun vi is dropped. If you did add it for emphasis, the sentence would become Vi ćete šetati zajedno u parku (notice the -i comes back because the main verb is no longer right before the helper!).
Why does park have an -u at the end here?
This is a quick refresher on the locative case! When you use the preposition u to mean in a location, the noun has to change its ending. For regular masculine nouns like park, we add an -u to the end, making it u parku.
