Questions & Answers about Želimo ići u muzej.
Why is there no word for 'we' in this sentence?
In Croatian, you usually drop the pronoun (like mi for 'we') because the verb ending already tells you who is doing the action. The -mo ending on želimo clearly means 'we want'.
Why do we use u here to mean 'to' the museum?
When talking about going to a destination, Croatian uses u (which often means 'in' or 'into') for enclosed spaces like buildings, cities, and countries. Since a museum is a building you go inside, we use u.
The lesson says we need the accusative case after u for a destination. Why didn't the word muzej change its ending?
Muzej actually is in the accusative case here! For masculine nouns that are non-living objects or places (inanimate), the accusative form is exactly the same as the basic dictionary form. The ending would only change if the masculine noun was a living being.
Why is ići used in its basic dictionary form (infinitive)?
Just like in English ('want to go'), when you use two verbs together where the first expresses a desire, the second verb stays in its base infinitive form. Here, želimo changes to match 'we', so ići stays as the infinitive.
